Run CDOS

This is an emulator for a Cromemco CDOS system from the 1970s or early 1980s.

It ran CP/M programs and additional ones written especially for CDOS, but it only ran on Cromemco hardware. Many of the programs were written to take advantage of the Z80 CPU and wouldn’t run on the earlier 8080. This emulator is based on the Z80 so it should do fine with both CP/M and CDOS ones.

With this emulator, you can:
– Start an entire computer system with one double-click.
– Run original software in its original environment.
– Copy files in and out of the environment (with the cpmfs tool).
– Change disks at any point.

Installation

Installation is easy. There’s no installer to run, no DLLs to copy to places, or to register. Just download the ZIP, unZIP it, and double-click “run”. A CDOS computer appears right in front of you.

You can even right-click on run.bat and choose “Send to … Desktop (create shortcut)”. That way you don’t even have to find where you unZIPped it. Just double-click the desktop icon.

Downloading

You can download a CDOS 0.20 version from cpm/z80sim/run-cdos0020.zip.

You can download a CDOS 1.07 version from cpm/z80sim/run-cdos0107.zip.

You can download a CDOS 2.36 version from cpm/z80sim/run-cdos0236.zip.

You can download a CDOS 2.58 version from cpm/z80sim/run-cdos0258-1.zip (4x 8″ SSSD) or from cpm/z80sim/run-cdos0258-2.zip (4x 8″ any). CDOS 02.58 reads the disk type from track 0, sector 1 and adjusts to match any combination of one or two sides and single or double density.

NOTE: CDOS 0.20 is configured for four 5″ drives and doesn’t have a CDOSGEN.COM to change that. If you want to access additional software you’ll need to use images of 5″ disks. You can create these, and copy files from 8″ versions, using cpmfs.

This is part of the CP/M topic.
